I am the type of person who hates someone before they get to know them. I have no idea why this is but it has been that way for as long as I can remember. The Dalai Lama has always been for world peace and a free Tibet. He has always preached the golden rule, “do unto others as you would like done unto you.” No one seems to listen to this lately. The whole world has been engrossed in an everlasting power struggle. From Roman civilizations taking over whole empires to our current conflict with the Iraqis. Since I work in Hollywood I am particularly interested in how the media portrays the clash of civilizations.
From the movies “War of the Worlds” to “Independence Day”, Hollywood has been showing that one civilization is better than the other. Aliens will invade and America or the world will win. In order to produce a good movie, conflict is needed. This is why most movies are about some sort of struggle, be it a love story or someone stealing diamonds from Uganda and two different civilizations clashing. Most people don’t realize this. This sells and it also helps to give people the mindset that struggle is good. Everyone has had friends in high school or in college that just like “drama”. In the end everyone gets fed up with them and they end up distancing themselves from said person.
So what can be done to calm down the global “anger” that almost everyone (except for the Dalai Lama) feel. With the advance of the internet social networking is growing at an extremely quick pace. People can have an email to someone literally across the globe in a matter of seconds. Myspace allows people to meet new people and help ease that tension. Our governments try to help but all the laws and restrictions really don’t help with any of that. People have to stop being just so defensive. This is not a Superbowl game, no one cares who wins. Everyone should be more focused on getting to know each other and bettering the world.
